Ministry Formation Degree: Guiding People Towards Faith

Ministry formation overview

Ministry formation is now becoming a very popular path to follow academically especially if you are interested in becoming a pastor or a religious teacher in your community. More and more young people are now turning towards this degree for a future in the church and this is why prominent schools who previously offered degree courses only in main stream educational fields are now offering courses and degree programs in religious studies as well. Due to the rapidly growing popularity of these courses, degree programs are being offered on-campus as well as online.

Most students get confused between the study of ministry and the study of ministry formation. The difference between these two is that in the study of ministry of formation, students are trained to work in the field with people to spread the word of God.

Schools offer ministry formation programs on graduate level. Taking online classes for this degree program are beneficial for those who are already either involved in the service of the church or community, or they can not afford to leave their jobs to pursue college education full time. Taking this course online is also beneficial since it lets you study and understand the ideology and concepts of faith and religion in your own space and time.

Another reason why online ministry formation is more preferable is because you can be in any part of the world, yet you can take online classes in this degree program in the college of your choice in the US. The study schedule is flexible and available online 24/7. Online degrees are also much cheaper to pursue than those being offered on-campus.

However, in spite of all these conveniences, students who pursue degrees online still get financial assistance from their institution or the federal student aid program as easily as on-campus students do. They too can apply for scholarships and grants just as easily.

During this program students learn how to communicate concepts of faith and spirituality effectively and ultimately bring people closer to religion. Studying online for this degree will help you understand the values of Christianity and help you bring others into the folds of religion.

You can enroll in an online ministry formation degree on an associate, bachelor’s or even master’s levels. During these programs students are taught how to be effective church leaders and pastoral ministries. How to be a good spiritual and emotional counselor and help people understand religious better is also part of the curriculum.

It takes about two years to complete an associate’s degree with specialization in this field while a bachelor’s in ministry formation requires about 4 years. For a master’s degree in Ministry formation you’ll need about one to two years, but if you are enrolled in its online version, then this time period may vary. Some of the courses studied at any level of ministry formation programs are Christian history, Christian evangelism, ministerial ethics, pastoral counseling, Christian rites and traditions, biblical counseling, and Christian philosophy.
