Universal Council for Online Education Accreditation

UCOEA

Online education has seen an immense growth in the past decade. Like all other educational programs, proponents of the idea wanted to ensure the credibility of the programs offered through online schools. Accreditation is a means to do just that. Online programs are accredited by the Universal Council for Online Education Accreditation. Accreditation not only ensures that the program designed is high quality but that it maintains its standard too.

Accreditation Requirements

To be eligible for accreditation, an online program needs to:

  • Be registered legally in its host country;
  • Have a no discrimination policy as regards race, religion, age, marital status among other factors;
  • Have a policy that ensures confidentiality of their students’ personal and academic records.
  • Make sure that only students who meet all academic requirements graduate;
  • Let the UCOEA know of any changes to their program operation; and
  • Be nominated by a UCOEA member.

Accreditation Process

To obtain accreditation, the institute first holds an internal survey to see if it matches up to the criteria set by the Universal Council for Online Education Accreditation. Then it requests UCOEA to review its program. If the UCOEA finds it satisfactory, it grants the online school accreditation status.
If an online study program is accredited by the UCOEA, it is reevaluated periodically. Accreditation is sustained only if the set standards are maintained. Re evaluation is carried out every eighteen months or so.

Benefits of Accreditation

Being accredited puts an online program at par with its contemporaries. Some of the most commonly talked about benefits of accreditation are enlisted below.

  • The whole process of accreditation allows a study program to evaluate itself and improve itself.
  • Accreditation proves to the students that their online program values and adheres to quality standards and they are in turn getting quality education.
  • While transfer of credits to another institute is not guaranteed if an online program is accredited, employers generally prefer hiring more candidates from programs that are duly accredited.

All students applying to online study programs should, therefore, ensure that their program is properly accredited. The UCOEA maintains a database for this person which can be accessed by all prospective online students.

  1. Cash should never be a reason why individuals cannot obtain a diploma because we are all given with able bodies. This simply means that people need to work so that we can have the money to be able to continue training. Many working students have succeeded their quest for training and this is such a great factor. Not everyone has the heart and the diligence to finish online degree. Some people would rather quit school and obtain married! Now, this isn't a bad thing either but the worse factor is to quit and give up hope. Why would you throw your dream of obtaining a college degree simply because you do not have the money? There is a means to fix every problem and one of which is to find a means to be able to invest in your tuition fee. How? First you have to find a job that can support you in addition to pay for your tuition fee. Now, in case your salary is isn't enough to pay for your tuition fee then you can apply for a student loan.
